New York Public Library, South Court - NYC
Architect: Davis Brody Bond
Opened in 2002, the New York Public Library’s South Court Expansion project added four new above ground floors in an area between landmarked buildings whose exteriors could not be altered or obscured. Light filters down through an open vertical atrium from a skylight above. Aluminum leaf lines coves nestled into the outer edge of each floor, reflecting a soft ambient light into the space augmenting or, at night, substituting for daylight.
