Seige Sur Vingt in Plaza Hotel - New York, New York
Architect: 212box Architecture, PC
Seize Sur Vingt is a french-origin shirt atelier offering made-to-order shirts for fashionable men and women who want to dress well without looking like the 2000’s Wall Street set.
This location in the lower level of the Plaza Hotel presented lighting challenges. First, to be fully appreciated, the shirts need to be seen in the proper color temperature but the underground setting offered no natural light. On top of that, the developer had already installed some lighting which had to be integrated into the solution. Second, the shirts are stored on long dual-sided shelves that can be positioned by customers like the rolling stacks in a library which meant the lighting had to be equally balanced at every point in the store. To solve these problems a mix of fluorescent and MR16 lamps were positioned so that no matter where a rack of shirts might roll, the color temperature would be well-balanced and the lighting angle would lend a touch of drama without creating shadow or dim zones.
