French Culinary Institute - NYC
Architect: Alexander Antonelli Architect The French Culinary Institute renovated and expanded its space in 2006, adding workshop rooms, conference rooms, office space, and other training facilities in a landmark Soho loft building. The school specializes in the intricacies of French technique combined with the inventiveness of the American tradition. Attached to the school is a restaurant where students are able to present their acheivements to New York’s discriminating dining public.
To preserve the industrial feel of the loft space, the client decided to maintain the original ceiling conditions. High volume air handling ducts necessary for the support of several kitchen classrooms run through the space, presenting a lighting challenge. Fixtures are laid out to avoid conflicts with this large diameter duct system. |
