Punahou Case Middle School - Honolulu, HawaiiArchitect: John Hara Associates The Case Middle School consists of nine two-story buildings stretched over four acres of land. The campus layout creates a strong sense of place and community for 1,024 students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grades within the larger context of the Punahou School. There are three buildings for each grade level: two classroom buildings with each floor housing a team of students and their core teachers and a Creative Learning Center, an open flexible area designed to foster collaborative, interactive learning.
Interior and exterior lighting for all nine buildings and surrounding green space is controlled through a single server-based system: the Lutron digital microWatt system. This system performs a number of energy conservation tasks such as daylight harvesting and precise lamp-life monitoring. Because the system is run from a web-enabled server, building operators can control all aspects remotely. The project received the Sustainability Award of Excellence from the AIA Hawaiian Chapter and is LEED Certified at the Gold Level. |
