Four Seasons Hotel - New York, New YorkArchitect: I.M. Pei Architect Interior Designer: Peter Marino Architect The Four Seasons’ new owner decided to renovate both exterior and interior spaces by adding skylights and balconies to the new Presidential Suite, state-of-the-art equipment, like in-wall flat speakers, to the Royal Suite, and new exterior lighting at the building crown. In the luxurious new suites, custom designed square glass downlights provide soft ambient light and halogen wall slots graze the Venetian plaster walls, gently revealing the subtle texture of the surface. The wall-mounted switches are also uniquely designed for ease of use. Visually unappealing data communication systems are hidden, yet accessible, behind the clean plane of simple control faceplates. Light fixtures in the vanity were improved and installed within the existing limited spacial condition.
The building crown sparkles like a tiara in New York’s skyline with new QL lamps placed between stones. The lanterns’ tail lights were also replaced with HID lamps for longer life and lower maintenance costs. Flood lights were added at the building set backs to highlight the verticality of the building. |
