Tribeca Residence - Tribeca, New York
Architect: Gary Lee Partners This high-end residential building in Tribeca was converted from a former office building. The architect took advantage of vast loft space and designed an open plan for the living room, dining room, kitchen, and study. This granted the loft a continuous view of uptown Manhattan, the Hudson river, and Soho. In addition, the architect raised the floor and concealed the heating and cooling systems underneath creating nearly floor to ceiling windows and a pristine setting for the owner’s expansive art and furniture collection.
Concealed lighting throughout the apartment highlights the artwork, furniture, and views without calling attention to itself. The raised floor provided the unique opportunity to recess uplights that illuminate the extraordinary sculptures and play to the scale of the apartment. A Crestron lighting control system creates multiple, customized scenes. The owners can easily cater to their needs, whether for a party or a quiet evening. Despite the expansive size and sweeping views, the concealed lighting can subtely transform the apartment into an intimate and elegant space. Zen-like materials contrast the apartment’s industrial setting and a provide a sanctuary amid the frenzy of downtown Manhattan. |
