The DE Shaw Cafe and Lounge is a newly renovated cafeteria where employees can come to replenish, so- cialize, and relax. The space features a bold, angular counter for food display that invites visitors to explore the full length of the space. Suspended light fixtures highlight the cafe’s culinary offerings and emphasize the linearity of the design. Embedded ceiling lights attract employees to enjoy the range of uses provided by the cafe while giving the entire space a warm, convivial atmosphere.
L-shape fixtures illuminate the glass panels from within, connecting the lounge’s social area and the adjacent corridor with a vibrant but soft glow. The hidden fixtures that produce the lantern effect create a dazzling display of silhouettes between spaces that invites visitors into the cafe. The enticing warmth that flows into the lounge and its surroundings integrates it into the building while establishing it as a place of respite from a hard days work.

The video conference rooms facilitate direct communication between DE Shaw offices and with other companies. An extremely flexible interior allows DE Shaw to rearrange the space to meet needs of each meeting. A sliding partition can removed for larger video conferences and presentations. The dynamic lighting solution addresses this flexibility by providing the users with maximum control and evenly dispersed illumination.
The lighting plan specifically caters to the needs of video conferencing by taking into account the technical operation of the equipment. A balance of vertical and horizontal illumination brings out participants in meetings while eliminating the shadows frequently exaggerated by the camera. Even when the rooms are rearranged or joined to form a larger space, the lighting highlights each individual. The video conference room’s lighting solution has become a prototype for DE Shaw branches.
