RCN - Long Island City, New York
Interior Architect : Gertler & Wente Architects RCN is a growing telecommunications service provider that uses the latest technology to give customers all-digital service. To meet the needs of its expanding New York market, RCN opened a new office in Long Island City, Queens. In keeping with its standing as an innovator in the field, the company sought to create a LEED certified office that also captured its creative philosophy. The renovation of a full floor in a former industrial building enabled the architect to create an open office with high ceilings and expansive views between offices, training spaces, and exhibition areas. The contrast between the raw industrial space and the clean, modern renovation emphasizes the company’s innovative ideals.
The lighting fixtures accent both the industral and the modern features of the office. Indirect-direct luminaires highlight exposed ducts and provide even illumination for employees. Fluorescent lighting with photosensors responds to daylight by adjusting output accordingly while meeting LEED standards. Decorative fluorescent fixtures draw attention to key public areas and enhance the office’s inventive, ecofriendly style. |
